furball busts loose

So, there’s a project that I’ve had in mind to do for years and years that I’ve finally decided to tackle. I’m going to remake my first, uh, “zine”?

When I was a kid I put together this baffling little Tiny Toons fan fiction called Furball Busts Loose which was I’m sure, is named after the Tiny Toons Super Nintendo game Buster Busts Loose and is made up of a bunch of images that are clearly traced out of a colouring book tied together by a loose, somewhat nonsensical story that I came up with. The whole thing is done with pencil crayons on lined paper and taped together with boxing tape.

It’s… kind of wonderful?

The idea is to take this and turn it into a small children’s book with proper illustrations done to the best of my ability today while using the story I wrote as a kid to the letter, weird spelling mistakes and all. I’ll be making a bunch of changes because I don’t really want to draw a Tiny Toons children’s book per se and kinda just wanna run with the weirdness of what kid Jason came up with.

A big reason for jumping into this project is to apply everything I know about comics, sequential storytelling and illustration into trying to make a real, bonafide children’s book to use as a portfolio piece. So, to that end I’m planning on sharing my process as I work my way through the project!

So! More to come!

sk8er grrrl

Here’s a skater Grrrl. Apparently I like drawing kids with skateboards. And I tried, tried so hard to be a skateboarder when I was a teenager but I was always terrible at it.

Sk8erboi

Here’s a Sk8er Boi for your perusal. Based on some photo I found on pinterest.

I just recently got back from a vacation in Portugal and I’ve got to say that it’s somewhat amazing how much rust builds up when you take a tiny little vacation. Drawing this felt like I was chiselling my way through something at every step of the process. This is me warming back up.

welcome!

It all begins with an idea.

Hello and welcome to this - - my brand spanking new NEW website! My name’s Jason Bradshaw and I’m a cartoonist and illustrator working out of Toronto, Canada. I’m really excited to share this re-launch of my website as a hybrid illustration/comics platform to share my artwork in a more organized and streamlined fashion than I have been over the last few years through social media.

The site is split into two main sections - - the first, and the primary focus of the website, is the illustration section which I intend to use going forward as my portfolio for my burgeoning illustration career. The second, comics, is intended to be an archive of past comics work that I’ve done to both showcase the work itself but also make accessible for anybody who hasn’t had the opportunity to purchase any of my comics which have had admittedly pretty low print runs.

This, the blog - - the third section of the website - - is intended to be a space to showcase and talk about what I’m doing outside of the confines of social media. It’s an attempt to build a space that’s free of the advertising and algorithms that make it a drag to share ourselves online. I used to have a Blogspot account that I loved posting on back in the day and I intend to use this space much in the same way.

There’s more to come in this space, but for the time being - - welcome!
